Thomas Tuchel makes Antonio Rudiger claim amid Real Madrid interest in Chelsea star

Thomas Tuchel has offered no update on the future of Antonio Rudiger amid reports the Chelsea defender is closing in on a move to Real Madrid this summer and said no player is bigger than the club.

According to the recent report from football.london, the German centre-back is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and has had a stunning 2021, easily the best of his Blues career, since Tuchel arrived at the club and deployed a back three that took the Blues to Champions League glory in May.

Rudiger can talk to clubs in Europe in January over a free transfer and has been linked with some of the giants on the continent for his next move. Real Madrid are reportedly willing to make him one of the best-paid players on the planet to take him to the Bernabeu.

The report has it that Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain have also been mentioned as possible destinations for Rudiger but it appears Real Madrid, who shelled out massive wages on free agent David Alaba last summer, are set to do so again with Rudiger. Jamb result

After the latest reports emerged regarding Rudiger’s future, Tuchel was asked to respond to them and if any player can be bigger than Chelsea if they did indeed decide to match his demands and get his future sorted quickly.

“Both answers are correct,” Tuchel said.

“It is super important and as I understood like myself and everybody else we absolutely accept the importance, we are fully aware of the importance of Toni and the role he is playing on and off the pitch. There is no doubt in that.

“And yes it is true nobody is bigger than a club, nobody is. This is a team effort, it is a team game, it is a strong club and it is also about the club. It is not about me, it is not only about Toni — and I mean that in the best way because we know what he is doing and we are fully aware of it. So both answers are right and, in the end, we need a bit of patience. I have no update right now.”
