How To Handle Stress Effectively

Some of the healthier and more effective ways of dealing with stress include:

1. Take a Break

A couple of minutes away from whatever it is causing you stress is a good way to disengage. Start a hobby, find something you enjoy. Relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing are some of the ways that can help unwind.

2. Exercise

Exercising is a good way to relieve stress and can be beneficial to both body and mind. Activities that require moving both your arms and your legs are particularly effective ways to handle stress.

Rhythmic exercises such as walking, running, swimming, dancing, and aerobic classes are good choices, especially if you exercise mindfully (focusing your attention on the physical sensations you experience as you move).

Talk: Staying in touch with friends and family will build the support that you need to handle challenges thrown your way.

The simple act of talking face to face with another human can help relieve stress when you’re feeling uncomfortable, unsure, or unsafe.

Even just a brief exchange of kind words or a friendly look from another human being can help calm and soothe you when ever you’re feeling down.

3. Eating a Balanced Diet

Avoid or at least reduce intake of items such as nicotine, alcohol, caffeine. Nicotine and caffeine are stimulants which increase your stress level rather than reduce it. Intake of refined sugars should also be reduced. In general, try to eat a healthy, well-balanced and nutritious diet.

4. Get More Sleep

Lack of sleep is a major cause of stress. One of the easiest aids in falling asleep is to clear your room of reminders of the things that cause you stress.
Avoid caffeine during the evening, as well as excessive alcohol. Stop doing any demanding work hours before bed to give your brain time to calm down.
Take a warm bath or read a calming, undemanding book for a few minutes to relax your body, tire your eyes and help you forget about the things that worry you.
Lastly do not be afraid to seek help.
