3.) Humanitarian Affairs Associate

Location: Abuja

Requirements
Required Education Level:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Humanitarian Affairs, Emergency preparedness, Crisis / Emergency Relief Management, Rehabilitation, Development or a related area.
  • Humanitarian experience in the field (actual setting where a mission and/or project is being implemented) in emergency situations (complex emergency or natural disaster) is required. Experience in the UN Common System is desirable. Experience in the region is desirable.

Required experience:

  • 0 years of experience in 0 to 2 years experience working in humanitarian context, emergency and programme development.

Area(s) of expertise:

  • Crisis and emergency response, Development programmes, Security and protection

  • 18 – 26 years old.

  • This assignment is funded by the Government of the Republic of Ireland and therefore specific criteria apply:

Living Conditions and Remarks:

  • The assignment will take place in the nation’s capital, Abuja (Hardship Classification C).
  • Abuja is housed by many expatriate and diplomatic communities. Cost of living in Abuja varies but could be termed as high considering the class of people residing in the capital city.
  • Terrorism is the main threat in the Abuja. General crime is also prevalent.
  • UN staff members are advised to stay only in UNDSS assessed hotels and residential areas.
  • As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
