Saturday during the eNaira onboarding for Keke NAPEP passengers at Galadimawa Junction in Abuja, a consultant for the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Aminu Bizi, stated that the CBN has offered a 5% subsidy for individuals using the digital currency platform.

“The CBN has decided that a customer will have a 5 per cent subsidy. The CBN will give you a 5 per cent subsidy.  Electronically, the Keke NAPEP using the platform will have an instant 5 per cent discount if a passenger pays N100. The Keke NAPEP will have N100, plus the 5 per cent,” he said, noting that the passenger would also have a 5 per cent discount.

Bizi said the essence of the sensitisation programme was to show Nigerians at the grassroots how the eNaira platform worked.

An ordinary phone can carry the eNaira, without having an account number, without having a BVN. What you need is just a NIN number. You can receive and transfer from any account,” he noted.

He underlined that there would be at least ten agents in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas who would be responsible for implementing the onboarding programme.

The CBN’s digital money, the eNaira, is a legal tender supported by the law.

According to Hajiya Rakiya Mohammed, a representative of the coordinator of the Technical Working Committee on the eNaira, the purpose of the sensitisation exercise was to educate Nigerians about the digital currency and onboard them to the platform.

Mohammed, who was represented by an officer in the Technology Department of the CBN, Dr Nuhu Khalifa, said: “Today, we are here to engage a wider community of Keke NAPEP riders. Our adoption drive covers all segments and all sectors of our country. That is, from  government institutions to SMEs and people who spend any type of currency. We are engaging the Keke NAPEP community on how they can use the platform for exchange and how they can help us become ambassadors for the currency, which is a national asset.”

Mohammed highlighted that using the platform did not require a great deal of technological expertise, emphasising that it involved a streamlined application that could be downloaded on any mobile device.

“You can engage any of our agents and partners.  We have done a number of events across Nigeria. This is not the first time, and this won’t be the last.”Jamb Result
