Additionally, Dries Mertens, a Belgian forward, saw his contract with Napoli expire this week, and Napoli declined to extend it.
The Nigerian striker has been challenged by the former Inter Milan star to assume the role of captain and work with Di Lorenzo to drive Napoli farther.
