Belgium beat their main Group F rivals Austria 3-2 on 13 October to confirm their place at a third successive EURO in their first campaign under German-Italian coach Domenico Tedesco. Three-time winners and three-time runners-up, Germany are hosting their first EURO since reunification (West Germany staged the finals in 1988). They are led by 36-year-old former Hoffenheim, Leipzig and Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, who replaced Hansi Flick on 22 September 2023.

How does qualifying work?
Germany are assured of a finals spot as hosts, with another 20 teams – the top two in each group – securing their place through the European Qualifiers. The final three nations will be decided via the play-offs, which are determined by teams’ performances in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.
Hungary

After going 44 years without qualifying for a EURO finals between 1972, when they finished fourth, and 2016, Hungary have now made it to their third tournament in a row after a 2-2 draw in Bulgaria edged them over the line. They finished bottom of a tough group containing France, Germany and Portugal at EURO 2020 but did manage to pick up two points from their three games.
Netherlands

The Netherlands booked their place at the finals with a home win against the Republic of Ireland. Ronald Koeman is in his second spell as coach of his nation, having won the tournament as a player in 1988. He also guided the Oranje to the 2019 UEFA Nations League final and third place in the same competition in summer 2023.
Portugal

Portugal saw off their main Group J rivals Slovakia 3-2 on 13 October to make it to their first finals under new coach Roberto Martínez. If selected, Cristiano Ronaldo will make his sixth EURO finals appearance in Germany; he holds records for the most goals (14) and appearances (25) at the tournament.
Romania

After failing to qualify for the last edition of the tournament, Romania secured their place at EURO 2024 after a win against Israel in Hungary. They will be hoping to repeat their heroics of EURO 2000, where they progressed from a group containing Portugal, England and Germany before being knocked out by Italy in the quarter-finals.
Scotland

Steve Clarke’s side were confirmed as finals contenders after Norway failed to pick up three points at home to Spain on 15 October. Slovakia qualified for their third consecutive EURO finals with a 4-2 home win against Iceland. They finished third in Group E in 2020 and, having famously lifted the trophy as part of Czechoslovakia in 1976, their best performance since the countries split came in 2016, when they progressed to the round of 16 before being beaten by Germany.

Only Germany have participated in more EURO finals than Spain, who have made it through qualification for the nation’s 12th appearance at the tournament after defeating Norway 1-0 in Oslo on 15 October. Luis de la Fuente’s side will be hoping for a record-breaking fourth EURO win in Germany; they are currently level with the hosts on three triumphs.
Switzerland

Switzerland reached their fifth finals in the last six editions of the tournament with a draw against Kosovo in their penultimate game. Their best performance came in 2020, when they progressed through the group stage and stunned France on penalties in the round of 16 before a quarter-final exit at the hands of Spain, also on spot kicks.
Türkiye

Türkiye reached their third consecutive EURO finals after posting a 4-0 victory at home to Latvia on 15 October. They have been knocked out in the group stage in their last two appearances but memorably made it to the semi-finals in 2008, when they lost 3-2 to Germany in a thriller.
