Why Thomas Tuchel was livid with Callum Hudson-Odoi as Romelu Lukaku provides Chelsea a boost
Here are our talking points as the Blues beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Boxing Day to keep in touch with Man City and Liverpool in the Premier League.Information Guide Nigeria
Chelsea are back in the win column in the Premier League for the first time since December 11 and the 3-2 victory over Leeds United at Stamford Bridge after coming from behind to see off Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

With Liverpool not playing owing to their clash with Leeds called off for Covid issues and injuries, plus with Man City winning yet again earlier in the day, Thomas Tuchel’s side needed three points to keep their title aspirations alive.
Nine points to claw back from this ominous City side under Pep Guardiola might have been a mountain too far for Tuchel’s side but six points is a little more bearable.
In this packed December, Chelsea have not been at their best – they haven’t for some time in fairness – but the second half and the return of Romelu Lukaku (more on that later) showed signs that the Blues were sparking into life.
Having fallen behind, Chelsea didn’t cave in and meekly surrender to a Villa side who, for the first half especially, were by a long distance the better side. It wasn’t that the Midlanders had to be very good, the Blues were so bad in the opening 45 minutes that the hosts didn’t need to be in top gear.

Lukaku was out early for the second half warm up and when he started doing passing drills with one of the Blues’ coaching staff, it was clear he was coming on. He scored one and won the final penalty in injury time to help see Chelsea over the line.
But, as has often happened in recent weeks, the win came at a cost. N’Golo Kante, still Chelsea’s most important player by a street, was forced off in the second half with a recurrence of a knee issue that he suffered in late October.
According to football.london, Tuchel said after the game: “I think it would be [a big win] if we had a full squad, after the match in the cup, how we played it and how we won it. It gave us a lot of confidence also for the guys who didn’t play too many minutes. Today, another one away at Villa Park on Boxing Day. This is a big reaction and win.

We could catch huge momentum, like you say, and pushing them and pushing them but we are just checking on a daily basis about who can be pushed.”
The Blues were scheduled to play nine games in 31 days of December and despite other teams seeing matches called off left, right, and center, Chelsea have ploughed on despite their own Covid problems at Cobham last week.JAMB Result
