Yobe State Governor Asked to Resign as APC Chairman

The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni has been asked to resign as the Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

In a statement made by  Ahmed Usman, the Coordinator of The Progressive Youth Vanguard (PYV), a pressure group in APC, the party has capable hands and should not leave their affairs in the hands of one individual.

While making reference to the constitution, the Coordinator said “The provision of Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) is unambiguous to the effect that the Governor shall not, during the period when he holds office, hold any other executive office or paid employment in any capacity whatsoever”.

Ahmed Usman described the act as being contrary to the provisions of the constitution adding that all activities of Governor Buni as chairman of the party will be declared ”null and void”. Information Guides Nigeria

He however called on the President to look into the issue, “We expect President Buhari to direct Governor Buni to immediately resign as acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress as a stitch in time saves nine”.

The Party has however called on members to use internal dispute Mechanism and desist from taking the party to court.

According to the National Secretary of APC, John Akpan Udoedehe, the party is already compiling a list and will inform them when a decision is made. JAMB Result

Governor Buni who was appointed in 2020 after NEC’s dissolution of the Adams Oshiomole-led National Working Committee is to serve as acting chairman until new executives are elected however, a cross-section of members describe the act as unlawful according to Section 4 under Article 17 of the APC constitution which prohibits party officials from occupying a position in government.
