Adeleke wins at Supreme Court, hometown, PDP celebrate

Senator Ademola Adeleke, the newly elected governor of Osun State, is from Ede. On Thursday, the Supreme Court dismissed a challenge brought by Mr. Dotun Babayemi, a former candidate for governor on the PDP platform, which contested Adeleke’s candidacy.Infomation Guide Nigeria

In order to be recognized as the PDP candidate for the state’s July 16 governorship election, Babayemi has asked the supreme court to overturn the rulings of the lower courts.

Amina Augie, one of the court’s five justices, declared that the appeal was filed after its deadline since the pre-election subject is time-sensitive.

In addition to saying that “a pre-election subject has a timeframe of 14 days and cannot be relocated like a Rock of Gibraltar,” the court noted,Jamb Result

The PUNCH reports that Before the state governorship election, different primaries produced Babayemi and Adeleke but the National Working Committee of the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission recognised Adeleke as the authentic candidate of the party.

Babayemi attempted to have Adeleke’s designation as the party’s candidate recognized before the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal but was unsuccessful, leading him to turn to the Supreme Court.

In his ruling on the situation on May 18, Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of a Federal High Court, sitting in Osogbo, upheld the governorship primary that gave Adeleke her victory.

Additionally, the Federal High Court, Osogbo, judgement was appealed, and the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, agreed with the lower court and dismissed Babayemi’s appeal in its judgment on July 20.

Adeleke has stated that he has always had a firm belief in the judiciary and has referred to that branch of the government as a sign of justice and equity.

The statement read in part, “As I noted in my statement yesterday (Wednesday), this project is divine and is here to stay. Our people voted for light and we must all defend and sustain that mandate built on our five-point agenda for good governance.”
