Rivers youths discover illegal oil tapping point

Youths of the Nonwa, Uedume community in the Tai council of Rivers State have identified a crude oil tapping site on the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited-operated Trans Niger Delta Pipeline.

The Executive Director of the Youth and Environmental Advocacy Centre, Fyneface Dumnamene, confirmed the discovery by stating that the tap was located by youths acting as pipeline surveillance contractors.

Dumnamene disclosed on-site, during an observation trip of the finding site with other stakeholders, that the tap point is capable of loading two 33,000-liter tankers.InformationGuideNigeria

“Sometime last week I was invited as an environmentalist to come and observe what was discovered. In fact, the people that discovered this point and from what they told me are the youths who are working as pipeline surveillance contractors in the area.JAMB Result

Dumnamene revealed that Shell was on-site for inspection and is taking actions to prevent future harm by removing the pipe tapping.
