Abia: Residents cry out over erosion-ravaged roads in Ovom, Eziama

Residents of Ovom Street and Eziama in Aba, Abia State, at the weekend cried out over devastating impact of gully erosion in their areas, as per DAILY POST.

They lamented that the menace has posed serious threat on their lives and properties, pointing that the ravaging disaster had destroyed many buildings and vital economic valuables.informationguideNigeria

The Aba residents made their feelings known when the member representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Alex Ikwechegh, visited the areas to inspect erosion-ravaged roads.

Also, a trader, Madam Eunice Nwanoru, lamented that the road in the area, which was affected by gully erosion, has become a death trap.

She noted that if nothing urgent is done to curtail the menace, it could destroy more houses.

She said, “This is not our first time in crying out to government over the gully erosion that had already cut off the road.JAMB Portal

“You can see that the erosion menace on this road is expanding every rainy season towards public buildings. And we know when such ugly incident happens, many lives are being lost.

“So, I want to use this medium to call on relevant federal and state government agencies and ministries to intervene and reconstruct our road, in order to avert looming danger rearing on our faces.”

Meanwhile, speaking during the inspection tour, Ikwechegh frowned at the ugly condition of the road infrastructure in the area and assured the residents that he would take up the issue at the National Assembly.JAMB Result

The lawmaker promised to commence immediate palliative work on the road, in order to halt further deterioration.
