Don’t destroy democratic institutions – Ohanaeze to Obi, Atiku

The youth division of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo socio-cultural organization, has advised the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, along with his Peoples Democratic Party rival, Atiku Abubakar, to refrain from further public discourse regarding the 2023 presidential election. The group has expressed concerns that the ongoing commentary from both political figures could potentially undermine the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic foundations.

The call for restraint was issued by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, amid observations that the political rhetoric may incite additional challenges during a period when unity is deemed crucial for national recovery. This statement follows Mr. Obi’s criticism at a recent press conference where he implied that the Supreme Court had disregarded constitutional violations concerning the required qualifications for presidential candidates.InformationGuideNigeria

The leadership of the Ohanaeze youth faction emphasized the inevitability of electoral disappointments and counseled both Mr. Obi and Mr. Abubakar to accept the outcome for the greater good of the country.

“We urged them not to be hitting up the polity with their utterances in the name of press conferences, as a million of such public speeches cannot upturn the decision of the Supreme Court.

“The divisive comments will only create a situation where their supporters and followers will develop hatred for the government in power, thereby breeding distrust among the citizens and the government.”JAMB Result

He further stated that judgments emanating from various courts after the election have favoured all the political parties.

“It is sad that some politicians hail the judiciary when they are favoured and then slam the same judiciary once it did not go their way.
