Edo 2024: ‘I have no preferred candidate’ – Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has clarified his stance on the choice of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the upcoming Edo governorship election.JAMB Result

He stated that he has no preferred candidate among the aspirants vying to succeed him as his tenure comes to an end.

Governor Obaseki emphasized that the party has the authority to decide who will become its flagbearer in the gubernatorial election.NYSC Portal

This announcement came after a closed-door meeting between Governor Obaseki and Governor Bala Mohammed, who serves as the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, in Bauchi. The details of the meeting were not immediately available.JAMB Portal

Governor Obaseki also addressed his relationship with his deputy, Philip Shaibu, who has expressed interest in running for his position. He stated that their relationship remains cordial, dispelling speculations that he is not supporting his deputy’s ambition to succeed him.

He added: “But only the PDP and our members can decide who will become the flagbearer of the party at the gubernatorial election. I’m only one of the millions of party members in Edo State. I don’t think my vote alone will determine who becomes the party’s flagbearer.”
