Gunmen’s attack in Nasarawa claims 15 lives, Injure 11

Gunmen attack in Numa village, Nasarawa state by 10 pm last night during a naming ceremony has claimed no fewer than 16 lives, confirmed by Mr. Samuel Mashi, the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, today, Monday.

According to the Chairman, the gunmen have killed a pregnant woman and 15 others in Numa village. Hear him; “They just started shooting sporadically on a community that was just having merriment. “Unfortunately 16 people were killed in cold blood for just no reason,” the Chairman confirmed.

Mr. Mashi said that security officials have been contacted, adding that, presently, security is beefed up in and around the affected community and its environs with a view to forestall reprisal attacks by the armed bandit and further breakdown of law and order in the area.

However, Mr. Samson Gamu-Yare, Mr. Chun-Mada, as well as the Chairman Traditional Council of Akwanga, have described the attack as barbaric. According to them, apart from the 16 people killed, so many other persons were also injured, while those severely injured are receiving treatment in various hospitals within the state.

They, however, called on the state government and federal government to come to there and appealing to the relevant authorities should urgently fish out the perpetrators of the Sunday attack. The monarch, in particular, urged people of the affected community to endeavor to remain law-abiding, even in the face of such provoked attack.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of Criminal investigation Department CID in the state, Mr. Mohammed Akira, said that the command is on top of the matter, confirming that, the police has mobilized its men to the area for the purpose of forestalling further breakdown of law an order in the area.

Meanwhile, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that gunmen had in March 2019, attacked and killed people in Merte and Nandem communities of the same Local Government Area of the state.
