I Almost Featured Nicki Minaj — Iyanya

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has lamented the high cost of promoting music in the country.Information Guide Nigeria

According to INDEPENDENT, in a Twitter post, the ‘Kukere’ singer revealed that he spent a whopping sum of N52 million on the song he recorded with music star, Davido and Kizz Daniel.

Iyanya expressed shock at how expensive promoting songs has become in Nigeria.

The ‘Your Waist’ crooner said that the amount he mentioned covered recording of the song titled ‘Like’, shooting music video and promotion before as well as after its release.NYSC Portal

He said that N27 million is the cheapest amount he’s ever spent on a song and that was in 2021.

Speaking further, the artiste revealed that the song ‘Kukere’ was so massive that he came under pressure to put out another single. Although the song, ‘Flavour’ had already been produced and recorded, it didn’t seem like a worthy follow-up to ‘Kukere’.

He wrote, “Ur waist’ was so massive we decided it should go international and we needed the right artiste to help with that journey. Ubi Franklin suggested Nicki Minaj and I asked how we’re gonna pay for that, he laughed and said “if your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough”.

“We started making contacts to who will get us Nicki Minaj and we found someone Who had direct contacts and he asked that we fly to Atlanta for a meeting with him and then he will take us to meet Nicki Minaj for the collaboration. And I flew straight to Atlanta and we started meetings that will lead to the reason when we were in Atlanta.JAMB Result
