Israel agrees to four-hour daily pauses in Gaza, US says

The White House has announced that Israel will implement a daily four-hour halt to military activity in northern Gaza, intended to allow civilians the opportunity to evacuate the area safely.

Despite this development, President Joe Biden has expressed that a complete ceasefire is not currently anticipated.InformationGuideNigeria

The temporary pauses come as a result of diplomatic efforts by President Biden, who has been in talks with Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Biden has advocated for extended periods of non-engagement to relieve the tension after more than a month of conflict, which was reignited by attacks on October 7 by Hamas, an organization that is designated as a terrorist group by the United States and other countries.

Israeli troops and Hamas are now locked in heavy, close-quarters fighting in Gaza City in the north of the Gaza Strip.

“Israel will begin to implement four-hour pauses in areas of northern Gaza each day, with an announcement to be made three hours beforehand,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.JAMB Result

“We’ve been told by the Israelis that there will be no military operations in these areas over the duration of the pause (and) that this process is starting today.”

The situation described is intense and tragic, highlighting the severe impact of the conflict on both sides. Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, is indeed classified as a terrorist organization by many countries, including Israel, the United States, and the European Union. This classification is primarily due to their use of suicide bombings and rocket attacks against Israeli civilian targets as part of their tactics.JAMB Portal

The numbers cited indicate a significant loss of life and suggest a large-scale engagement between Hamas and Israeli forces. Such situations also exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in conflict zones, affecting civilians the most, especially vulnerable populations such as children.

It’s crucial to note that in conflict scenarios, information may come from various sources, and on-the-ground details might be difficult to verify independently. Therefore, reports from different parties involved in the conflict can vary, and third-party verification is often required to confirm specific claims about casualties and the extent of damage.
