The performance of prominent Nigerian comedian Josh Alfred, also known as Josh2funny, on the America’s Got Talent (AGT) show in the United States elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.

The 32-year-old, who is well-known for his YouTube comedy titled “The Audition,” is the first Nigerian skit creator to compete on the AGT reality show.InformationGuideNigeria

On their official Twitter page, the AGT organisers confirmed his audition performance by posting a video clip of his hilarious performance with the caption, “Josh Alfred is not given up! #AGT. This competitor will not give up! Josh Alfred performs three auditions.JAMB Portal

After an entertaining introduction in the video, he performed a comic act that initially confounded the judges, causing them to miss the intended meaning. During his performance, the comedian appeared three times as the quickest reader, best magician, and best rapper.

At the highly coveted talent show, the comedian’s performance continues to generate both criticism and praise. Others criticised his strategy, stating that he could have taken advantage of the opportunity more effectively.

Reacting to his audition on Twitter, popular social media critic, Daniel Regha who described his performance on the global stage as a waste of opportunity,  wrote, “Nigerians will applaud anything as long as a Nigerian is getting the hype, & it’s beyond shameful!. Josh misused the America’s Got Talent platform by wasting everyone’s time, which isn’t funny. Thousands audition each year but only a few get selected, so why waste the opportunity?”JAMB Result

Another user, @EmmyWorthYrn wrote, “He just went to embarrass himself honestly that platform people dream of being there and look at what he did with his opportunity.”

@oghenriejunior tweeted, “There’s nothing funny about what “Josh too Funny” did on that stage if we’re being honest. His videos on Instagram are even funnier than that stage performance.”

On the contrary, reality star, @Simply_Tacha tweeted, “Lool Josh is the funniest!! Really Big to make it to America Got Talent!! “NYSC Portal 

Ankyger @AfamDeluxo wrote, “Josh 2 funny is unbelievably daring.  It takes lots of guts to be able to do what he did.  If you have never climbed a stage, you won’t understand. For him to face an audience different from his usual audience and even make them laugh is incredibly audacious.  S/o to Josh! ”
