Kogi Tribunal: Court Orders INEC To Grant Ajaka Access To Election Materials

At a recent hearing in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, the Kogi State poll Petitions Tribunal issued an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant Murtala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate, access to electoral materials. This decision responded to a plea made by S.E. Aruwa, SAN, on behalf of Ajaka, who encountered difficulties in obtaining critical documents for the state’s gubernatorial election case.NYSC PORTAL

Aruwa had expressed frustration over the inability to acquire 42 specific documents necessary for the legal proceedings. Despite efforts to obtain these documents from INEC’s offices in Lokoja and Abuja, their team had been unsuccessful, leading them to seek the tribunal’s intervention.JAMB Portal

Justice Yusuf Birnin-Kudu, the presiding judge of the tribunal, found the application to be well-founded and in line with both the electoral law and the Nigerian constitution. Consequently, he ruled in favor of the request, instructing INEC to provide certified copies of the materials used in the gubernatorial election to Ajaka’s legal representatives, John Adele, SAN, and Aruwa, SAN, within two days.informationguidenigeria

Additionally, the tribunal chairman approved John Adele’s request, compelling INEC to provide access to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and other electronically used materials within a 48-hour timeframe.

Following the tribunal’s ruling, John Adele expressed optimism that INEC would comply with the tribunal’s order. This decision is significant as it ensures transparency and fairness in the electoral process, allowing the SDP candidate’s legal team the necessary resources to pursue their case effectively.JAMB Result
