Nigerian Govt will support Akinkunmi’s family, proud of contribution to Nigeria’s unity

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, yesterday, said Federal Government was proud of the legacy of the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi towards Nigeria’s unity. THE GUARDIAN reports.

Akinkunmi had, in 1958, designed the Nigerian flag. The minister vowed that the Federal Government would stand by his family. Idris made the remark during a condolence visit to the deceased’s family at his residence in theKoola area of Ibadan, Oyo State.NYSC Portal

The minister said Akinkunmi’s legacy rests on creation of the national flag, which he described as a symbol of unity and independence that has endured through the decades; “a symbol we are yet to find replacement for and that we hope will continue to remain a rallying point for all Nigerians wherever they may be.

He said President Tinubu, recognising the global impact of Akinkunmi’s passing, directed the Federal Government’s delegation to convey Nigeria’s collective grief and gratitude to the family.
