About MAUTECH
The Federal University of Technology Yola is now known as the Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, is a research-intensive university located in Girei a town in Adamawa State in Northeastern Nigeria. It is one of the 27th federal government university systems and one of four federal technology universities established with the sole purpose of advancing science-based research. The Federal University of Technology Yola is accredited by the National Universities Commission. The university offers associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees.
Brief History of MAUTECH
Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, formally known as the Federal University of Technology Yola, Adamawa state Nigeria was established in 1981 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide the much-needed technologically skilled manpower for the nation. It is one of the Federal Universities recognised by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer Bachelor’s, Masters and Doctorate degrees in different fields of Science and Technology. The University’s first set of 108 students graduated in the 1988/89 academics session. The University was merged with the University of Maiduguri in 1984, when it became the Modibbo Adama Campus (MACUM), of the University of Maiduguri. However, in 1988, it was de-merged and granted full autonomy with the name reverted to Federal University of Technology, Yola. In 2011, the then President and Commander-in-Chief, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR approved the change of the University’s name to Modibbo Adama University of Technology, (MAUTECH) Yola, effective from 1st October 2011. With a students’ population of over twenty thousand, the University runs undergraduate and postgraduate programs in seven schools namely: School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT); School of Environmental Science (SES); School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT); School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS); School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET); School of Technology and Science Education (STSE) and School of Postgraduates Studies(SPGS).
In addition to conventional full-time programmes, the University runs degree programmes through its Distance Learning and Centres. Its Consultancy Services Unit also runs diplomas and Certificates in over twenty programmes. Teaching and Research in Science and Technology have been the main thrust of the University. These have been attractive to the University’s series of collaborations and partnerships with foreign Universities, Corporate bodies, Government and non-Governmental Organizations. Six distinguished professors have successfully steered the affairs of the University as Vice-Chancellors from its inception.

Notable Achievements of MAUTECH
Below are some of the notable achievements of MAUTECH.
- The university got full accreditation for 49 programmes out of 52, while 2 programmes got interim accreditation.
- The University under his watch had trained about 200 staff at home and abroad for Masters and Ph.D.
programmes. - The floating of the University Students Support Scheme to about N33,181,695.83 and disbursed N7.2 Million to the first batch of 20 beneficiaries who were essentially less privileged, indigent
students. - The staff voluntary Contributory Scheme which is based on individual contribution towards the unforeseen eventuality of death had raised about N45 million, with N19m disbursed by the Scheme to families of deceased colleagues
- In the area of infrastructure, the school have been able to – Equipped the Central
Research Laboratory. dollar to naira rate - Built four new basic science laboratories to accommodate foundation classes
- Contracts for furnishing and equipment have been awarded.
- Built extension of Architecture Department and contract for furnishing has been awarded.
- Built and equipped a CBT ·Centre with 800 computers.
- Completed block of offices to remedy the unending dearth of office accommodation for academic staff.
All this achievement was recorded under the administration of the former vice-chancellor of MAUTECH Professor Kyari Mohammed. He was the seventh Vice-Chancellor of the University. He assumed duty on 9 June 2014.
