Two killed, 8 injured as farmers, herders clash In Kebbi

Atragic clash between farmers and herders resulted in the death of two farmers and injuries to eight others in Kebbi . The incident occurred in the Suru Local Government Council area, as reported by its Chairman, Mohammed Lawal. The conflict began on Saturday morning when farmers discovered their fields being grazed on by cattle.JAMB Portal

In response to this violent encounter, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris paid a condolence visit to the affected communities in Suru and Koko/Besse Local Government Areas.informationguidenigeria

During his visit, Governor Idris expressed his sorrow over the unfortunate rift between the Fulani herders and farmers. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, he committed to resolving the crisis through peaceful means.

Governor Idris emphasized the importance of dialogue as a critical tool for addressing and resolving the ongoing farmer/herder clashes in the state. To initiate the peace process, he announced the formation of a reconciliation committee. This committee includes key figures such as the Commissioner of Police, the Head of the Department of State Service (DSS), representatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), District Heads, members of the State House of Assembly, and other relevant stakeholders.JAMB Result

In a gesture of solidarity and support, the governor donated N13 million to assist the families of the deceased and those injured in the crisis. This donation is part of the broader effort to address the aftermath of the clash and support the affected community members.NYSC PORTAL

The statement released by Governor Idris’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, also detailed the governor’s commitment to starting the settlement process. The District Heads of Suru and Dustemari, Mohammed Bello-Jaguwadeji and Mohammed Malebi, respectively, expressed their gratitude to Governor Idris for his sympathy visit and the measures being taken to resolve the crisis.
