Why 2024 budget can’t be implemented – Ex-Benue gov, Suswam

Gabriel Suswam, the former Governor of Benue State, has expressed strong reservations about the 2024 budget proposal presented by President Bola Tinubu.

Suswam’s main concern revolves around the significant deficit in the budget, which he estimated at N17 trillion. This deficit, according to Suswam, casts doubt on the feasibility of implementing the budget as presented.informationguidenigeria

In his address to the 25 fellows of the Emerging Political Leaders Fellowship, Suswam went beyond critiquing the budget’s numerical aspects.

He connected the issues with the budget to what he perceives as a lack of adequate leadership skills among the current people in power.NYSC Portal

This comment by Suswam implies that the challenges with the budget are not just economic but also stem from governance issues.JAMB Result

According to Suswam: “I was looking at the budget, out of the whole money in that budget, the deficit is N17 trillion.

“Because you have N9 trillion of deficit, N8 trillion of debt service, then you have N2.7 trillion of tax expenditure, that is a waiver.

“So the entire money, the N27 trillion budget is not implementable. Do you know why we have that? Because we have people in leadership with no intellectual content.”
