Discos fail to utilise 1,936MW despite blackouts – FG

The Federal Ministry of Power’s most recent data on the daily Discos load summary showed that the 11 power distribution companies in Nigeria did not use a total of 1,936.26 megawatts of electricity in one week due to the nation’s low electricity generation.

According to data from the load summary that was received in Abuja on Monday, the power companies did not use the 1,936.26MW between August 13 and August 19, 2022, because of different issues including electricity theft, late payments, etc. in the distribution subsector.Information Guide Nigeria

Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola are among the 11 electricity distribution firms. The discrepancy between the electricity load allotted to the businesses and their actual usage was the amount of unutilized power.

According to our correspondent’s analysis of the Discos’ unused load on August 13 and August 14, the electricity companies failed to distribute a combined total of 208.44 MW and 364.11 MW, respectively.

The amount of unutilized load by the Discos on August 15, 16, and 17 was, respectively, 444.4 MW, 216.86 MW, and 466.3 MW.

However, it was noted that Port Harcourt Disco only reported 1.47MW of power as unutilized load on August 18 while the other 10 Discos received and dispersed a total of 656.76MW of excess load on the same day.

In contrast to the seven-day total of 1,936.26MW of unutilized power load, the Discos did not use 234.68MW on August 19.JAMB Result

“The core issues of the lack of a cost reflective and sustainable tariff, inadequate gas supply, inconsistent regulatory and policy determinations, transmission grid constraint, non-payment of MDA electricity debt, electricity theft, lack of respect for sanctity of contract, etc, must be addressed if the electricity distribution subsector, in particular, and Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry in general, is to make progress,” the power firms stated.
