Fresh protests in Iran as another teen killed

Iranians staged further protests on Thursday in defiance of the government’s crackdown, as rights groups reported that an 18-year-old was murdered in clashes in the northwest.Information Guide Nigeria

Iran has been gripped by protests started by the death of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by the notorious morality police, for almost six weeks – a movement that offers the Islamic republic’s greatest threat since the 1979 revolution.

The clerical authority under Ayatollah Khamenei, 83, has responded with a crackdown that has resulted in the deaths of scores, as well as the indictment of 1,000 individuals who, according to activists, face the death penalty.

The Iranian tradition of holding a “chehelom” mourning ceremony forty days following a death compounds the authorities’ difficulties, as the movement shows no signs of abating and each fresh killing can fuel new protest actions.JAMB Result

Hadis Najafi, a 22-year-old lady, was killed by security personnel in September, according to Iran Human Rights, a Norway-based organisation. On Thursday, enormous crowds gathered in the city of Karaj, west of Tehran, for a 40-day memorial for Najafi.

IHR reported that police had blocked the road leading to the cemetery to prevent an even greater turnout.

“This year is the year of blood, Seyyed Ali (Khamenei) will be toppled,” the video showed them chanting.
