Afe Babalola’s Profile

On October 30, 1929, Papa Joshua Adubiaro Babalola gave birth to a son and gave him the name Aare Emmanuel Afe Babalola. The name of the mother of Afe Babalola is Madam Abigail Ajayi Babalola.

Pa Joshua, being a farmer, and Ma Abigail, being a trader, never knew they had given birth to a great man that the whole world would hear of. Though they were not educated, Pa Joshua and Ma Abigail trained Afe to be forthright, honest, and industrious.

Thus, Afe Babalola grew up a fearless, courageous and tireless person who could make impossibilities possible in his life and the life of others.

Afe Babalola’s Early Life

At his tender age, Emmanuel Babalola attended Emmanuel Primary School, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. At the end of his primary education, Afe Babalola could not enter a secondary school because his parents were too poor to pay his secondary school fees. He then decided to become a Pupil Teacher. The virtues that his parents inculcated into him started working wonders after Afe’s primary education. Because his parents could not train him in secondary school, he relentlessly resorted to private studies using the money he was earning as a Pupil Teacher.NYSC Portal

Before he could know it, he had passed the Cambridge School Certificate Examination. He did not stop there. He went further to study for the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level and the Advanced Level, which he passed.

With his Advanced Level Certificate, he got admission into the London School of Economics. By 1959, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics with which he started to work at the Central Bank of Nigeria. He did this for a short time and left for the University of London to study Law.

By 1963, he had obtained his bachelor’s degree in Law and was called to the Bar of England, and became a member of Lincoln’s Inn, London, this same year. In 1987, the Federal Government of Nigeria made him a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and then became a member of the Nigerian Inner Bar.

On March 11, 2015, the University of London honoured him with Honorary LL.D. He became the first African to be so honoured in the history of the university.105 Good Morning My Love Messages

Afe Babalola’s Legal Career

In 1963, at Ibadan, Oyo State, Afe Babalola began his legal career as a litigation lawyer in the law firm of Olu Ayoola and Co. He only served the firm for two years after which he established his law firm by the name Afe Babalola and Co., also known as Emmanuel Chambers in the year 1965.

President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed Afe Babalola the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos in the year 2001. In 2005 and 2006, he was awarded the best Pro-Chancellor respectively.

In 2009, he left the University of Lagos to establish Afe Babalola University. By 2013, the University had risen to become the second-best private university in Nigeria.200 Romantic Love Messages for her

A Philanthropist

Afe Babalola is a philanthropist to the core. History has it that the father married four wives who had other children. Without discrimination, he took it upon himself to train all of them.

When he was the Pro-Chancellor of Lagos University, he gave his salary for the renovation of the school and the payment of some students’ school fees. In 2016, he single-handedly built an administrative office block for Ado-Ekiti Federal Polytechnic. In this same year, still at Ado-Ekiti, he constructed an auditorium for Ekiti State University Faculty of Law.

Still in 2016, at Ekiti State teaching hospital, he built houses for the nurses there. History has it that, in 2017, this philanthropist gave N16.5 million for the empowerment of more than a thousand people.

Coming to 2018, Afe Babalola gave more than N2 million to forty-eight farmers for food production in Ekiti State.

Following the history of Afe Babalola very closely, one can conclude that he lives a selfless life. His donations to people are uncountable. He let others live the type of life they never dreamed of. The foundation gives scholarships to poor Nigerian children yearly. Through the foundation, children who would not have gone to school at all have gone to a high level of academic pursuit. Thanks to God for a man like Afe Babalola.
