History of Nairaland

In October 2004, Seun Osewa, a young webmaster, launched three internet forums: the Mobile Nigeria Forum, Kampusgist, and NgITplace. While the Mobile Nigeria Forum became popular and reorganized in February 2005, the other two forums did not gain much traction.

Seun noticed that the off-topic section of the Mobile Nigeria Forum, where members discussed a variety of topics such as romance and politics, was as popular as the mobile-related discussions. This led him to believe that a forum on a variety of topics would be more successful than one focused solely on mobile telephony. As a result, he created Nairaland in 2005 by converting the Mobile Nigeria forum into a broader discussion platform.

By October 2005, the creation of Nairaland helped Seun exceed his traffic and revenue goals for the website.

Nairaland Company Overview

Since its founding in 2005, Nairaland has become Africa’s top online forum, with over 2.5 million members and 26 million unique visitors. Created by Seun Osewa for Nigerians interested in discussing contemporary issues, Nairaland has maintained its consistency while remaining relevant.
