Anambra govt shuts down casinos, gaming centres

All casinos and gaming establishments in Anambra State must immediately cease operations, following state government directive.Informaion Guide Nigeria

The order came after it was allegedly discovered that they were engaging in illegal and fraudulent activity.

The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Donatus Onyenji, the Chairman of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Richard Madiebo, and the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chikodi Angra, all signed a statement that contained this directive.

The manipulation of gambling machines and the lack of transparency in winnings payments, they alleged, were the subject of a concerning number of petitions submitted to the government.

The statement read, “This fraudulent practice will not be allowed to thrive under the watch of Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s administration and therefore must be dealt with immediately.

“Consequently, the Anambra State Government hereby directs operators of casino games in hotels, restaurants and bars to suspend all gaming and casino operations with immediate effect pending the conclusion of investigations.

“The government has therefore called for a meeting of all hotel owners and managers in the state on October 21 at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre.”

The claims amounted to major violations of industry best practises, which the government, overseen by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, would not tolerate, according to the statement.

It stated that the current administration will no longer tolerate the dishonest actions of the gaming facilities.

They said that all employees of the gaming centres had been invited to a meeting to discuss security and licencing enumeration and validation issues.

Any hotel that was not featured or did not have a hotel licence would be shut down in accordance with the state’s tourism and hospitality regulations, it was stated. Hotel revalidation papers would be handed at the event for all types of hotels and tourism businesses.
