Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to allow the old and new naira notes to coexist in order to alleviate Nigerians’ suffering.Information Guide Nigeria

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, speaking to media in Hausa after a closed-door meeting with the President on Friday, stated that while the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) collected almost N2 trillion in old notes, it produced only N300 billion in new notes, which he said was insufficient.NYSC portal

El-Rufai, speaking alongside his Kano State counterpart, Abdullahi Ganduje, stated that even if the CBN wanted to adopt the cashless policy, it should have printed half of what it scooped up to begin with, which should have been N1 trillion.

He stated that the APC Governors informed the President that they were suffering and traders were losing goods owing to a lack of patronage, providing the example of tomato vendors who traveled to Lagos with their wares, which all went to waste because people did not have money to buy.

On this ground, the Kaduna State Governor said the governors had no choice but to appeal to the President to reconsider his stances.

El-Rufai, however, revealed that President Buhari did not tell them yes or no.
