According to a statement signed by Atiku‘s media adviser, Mr. Paul Ibe, on Monday, Shekarau will serve as a special adviser alongside former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Senator Ehigie Uzamere.

It further stated that former PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, was also appointed as technical adviser to the presidential candidate.
The former vice-president charged the appointees to employ their vast experiences to attain victory for the party in the 2023 general elections, saying the appointments are to take immediate effect.
