During the incident, which Senator Dino Melaye, spokesman for the PDP presidential campaign, blamed on the APC, several vehicles were vandalized.

The Director of Media and Publicity for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, stated that the incident may have been the consequence of infighting inside the Borno State branch of the PDP, emphasizing that the APC had nothing to do with the violence.

Melaye stated that 70 people were hospitalized and scores of vehicles were vandalized, despite the fact that no fatalities were reported immediately.

According to our correspondent, the miscreants stoned Atiku’s convoy as it traveled to the palace of Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai Alkanemi, to pay tribute, causing concern in the state.

Numerous individuals were reportedly injured as the thugs attacked the convoy with rocks, sticks, and other weapons.

However, the state police command disputed the attack and added that they had apprehended Danladi Abbas for attempting to disrupt the demonstration.

Shortly after Atiku and his team left Maiduguri, a fire service vehicle and water tankers were seen spraying water on the tarmac road leading to the Shehu’s palace, while hundreds of APC supporters swept the road as a symbolic gesture of their rejection of the PDP presidential candidate and his team.

Atiku’s campaign train was ambushed during a rally in Kaduna on October 17, just days after thugs killed at least one and injured numerous party supporters in Zamfara State.

Concerned by the trend, the Independent National Electoral Commission warned that incidents of physical assaults on party supporters and damage of campaign materials around the nation are alarming and a breach of the Electoral Act.

Melaye claimed that the APC employed the thugs to thwart the PDP’s campaign in the state, adding that their caravan was assaulted with stones, sticks, and machetes as it traveled from the Shehu of Borno’s Palace to Ramat Square, the site of the PDP presidential rally, in an effort to thwart the event.

“They attacked at three locations – one after (Jagwal) cellphone market, another around one of the roundabouts on the road, and by the House of Sir Kashim Ibrahim (the governor of the defunct Northern Region) just before the Shehu’s palace.’’JAMB Result
