Douye Diri Re-Elected as Bayelsa State Governor in Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent Governor, Douye Diri, as the winner of the Bayelsa State governorship election, held last Saturday.InformationGuideNigeria

Diri, representing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), successfully defeated Chief Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as sixteen other candidates.

The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Kuta Farouk, announced the results at the Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Media Centre, INEC, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.JAMB Portal

According to Prof. Farouk, Governor Diri obtained a total of 175,196 votes, surpassing Chief Timipre Sylva, who received 110,108 votes. The election saw a total number of 1,056,862 registered voters, with 372,000 accredited to vote.NYSC Portal

The LGAs where the PDP candidate triumphed include Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenagoa, Sagbama, Nembe, Ekeremor, Brass, and Southern Ijaw. On the other hand, Chief Sylva of the APC won in the Nembe and Brass LGAs. This victory marks a significant milestone in Governor Diri’s political career, reaffirming his leadership in Bayelsa State.
