Any medical assistant who has obtained and complied with the certification standards established by the American Association of Medical Assistants is referred to as a certified medical assistant (CMA) (AAMA). The majority of the time, obtaining this certification requires finishing an accredited medical assisting program that is acknowledged by the Department of Education or CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation).

In addition to this, certified medical assistants may be required to carry out clinical duties, such as interviewing patients about their medical history, recording vital signs, or preparing patients for examinations. Other clinical responsibilities may include the gathering and preparation of laboratory specimens, the execution of fundamental laboratory procedures, and the sanitization of medical equipment.

Some medical assistants interact directly with patients, performing tasks such as collecting blood, giving drugs, advising on treatment plans, prescribing a particular diet, removing sutures, or changing bandages. Other medical assistants work in teams to perform these tasks. Other responsibilities may include cleaning the waiting room as well as the examination rooms, as well as placing orders for supplies and equipment for the medical office. Information Guide Nigeria
