Ed Sheeran found not guilty of plagiarising Marvin Gaye’s ‘Lets Get It On’

The Grammy winner was taken before a Manhattan court by the estate of iconic R&B musician Marvin Gaye over claimed plagiarism of the posthumous 1973 single ‘Let’s Get It On.’Information Guide Nigeria

On May 3, 2023, U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton ruled a jury should consider if the hit creator is accountable to the estate of Marvin Gaye and the heirs of late producer Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the song with Gaye.

Ed Sheeran denied any wrongdoing and even stated that if he is found guilty by the jury, he will leave music.

Sony/ATV song Publishing and Atlantic Records, through which the song was released, were also named as defendants in the dispute.NYSC Portal
