Ekiti burglar jailed four years for stealing, others

Olamide Owolabi, age 21, has been sentenced to four years of imprisonment with hard labor by an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in the Ado Ekiti District for theft and evasion of police custody.

On October 4, 2022, Owolabi was charged on five counts centering on creating breach of peace by leaping through the gate of one Otutu Ifeanyi, unlawfully breaking into his shop, stealing articles worth millions of naira, and escaping from police custody while under investigation, among others.Information Guide Nigeria

“The offences contravene and are punishable under Sections 181, 322, 363, and 120(a) of the Criminal Law, No 12 Vol.1, Laws of Ekiti State Nigeria, 2021,” the charge stated.JAMB portal

When the accusations were read, explained, and understood to the defendant, he pleaded guilty and did not contest to any of the evidence presented because he admitted to having committed the alleged offenses.

Judge Michael Faola, who sentenced the defendant to three years in jail for count two (jumping the fence) and one year in prison for count five (escape from police custody), both with hard labor, stated that the terms would run consecutively.
