Ethiopian Airlines to buy 67 Boeing jets

Ethiopian Airlines, one of Africa’s leading air carriers, has made a groundbreaking move in the aviation industry by placing a substantial order for Boeing aircraft. The order includes 11 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 20 737 MAX airplanes. This significant acquisition was announced in a statement from the airline on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the deal with Boeing includes an option for Ethiopian Airlines to acquire additional aircraft in the future. Specifically, the airline has the option to purchase 15 more Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 21 more 737 MAX jets. This option provides Ethiopian Airlines with flexibility for future expansion and fleet renewal strategies.

“We are pleased to announce Ethiopian Airlines’ deal with Boeing for 31 ultra-modern airplanes, with an option for 36 additional jets,” said Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew.

According to the statement, the airline is ordering the 787-9 variant, part of the Dreamliner family, reducing fuel use and emissions by 25 per cent.JAMB Portal

“The commitment positions Ethiopian Airlines to strengthen and diversify its fleet, currently comprising over 80 Boeing jets. The new 737 MAX order will be posted on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website upon finalization,” it added.

It further stated that Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines would collaborate on cabin modification services for existing 787 Dreamliners, enhancing passenger experience with advanced in-flight entertainment and new seats in all cabins, including lie-flat business-class seats from Boeing’s joint venture Adient Aerospace.

“Ethiopian Airlines continues its leadership as one of Africa’s preeminent airlines with this landmark commitment to expand their 787 and 737 MAX fleets,” said Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen.
