Strike stalls Chidinma’s trial over alleged murder of Super TV boss

The ongoing trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, an undergraduate student at the University of Lagos, accused of murdering Usifo Ataga, the CEO of Super TV, was stalled on Tuesday due to the impact of the nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress. This strike has affected various sectors across the country, including the judicial system.JAMB Portal

Chidinma Ojukwu, who is studying in the Department of Mass Communication and is in her 300-level, is facing trial at a Lagos State High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square. The charges against her include murder, theft, and forgery. She is being tried alongside her sister, Chioma Egbuchu, and a third defendant, Adedapo Quadri.

During the court session scheduled for Tuesday, only Chioma Egbuchu was present. Both Ojukwu and Quadri, who are currently held in a correctional facility, could not be brought to court. The absence of the defendants is directly linked to the labor strike, as inmates were not transported to court due to the industrial action.

Justice Yetunde Adesanya noted that the court had been informed by correctional facility officials that inmates would not be brought to court for security reasons until the strike was called off. This situation has led to a temporary halt in the trial, highlighting the broader impacts of the labor strike on legal proceedings and the justice system.InformationGuideNigeria
