Sometimes, in the 60s, the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors was established. This was an idea of some Nigerians, who were trained in the United Kingdom, and were qualified and then, they had decided to practice their profession there in the United Kingdom.
However, upon returning home, they saw the important of developing their profession in Nigerian, which of course, was Quantity Surveying.

That is why, Quantity Surveying profession is practiced in Nigeria just almost in the same pattern as in the case of that of the United Kingdom.
The practice of the profession of Quantity Surveying is just the same pattern, even other Commonwealth nations of the world have adapted to this same pattern of Quality Surveying practice.
For instance, in the United State of America, the profession is known and called, Cost Engineers. Nevertheless, the functions of Quantity Surveying are undertaken in different countries under different names.
