The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the controversial Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), to stay away from the office of the commission in the state until further notice. INDEPENDENT reports.Information Guide Nigeria
Yunusa-Ari on Sunday declared Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the governorship election in the state, but INEC declared null and void the purported declaration and asked the REC to report to its headquarters in Abuja. The commission said the declaration made by Yunusa-Ari was contrary to the law, noting that he usurped the powers of the returning officer in the gubernatorial supplementary election, who is statutorily empowered to declare the result. INEC consequently directed the stoppage of further collation of the supplementary result.

The two paragraphs letter read: “I hereby convey the commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State, should stay away from the commission’s office in Adamawa State immediately until further notice.
“The administrative secretary has been directed to take full charge of INEC, Adamawa State, with immediate effect.”
Meanwhile, INEC has shifted its emergency management meeting earlier fixed for Monday to today.
National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said on Monday that the meeting would now hold today.JAMB Result
According to him, this is to enable some of the national commissioners and other officials who are either on field assignments or have distances to cover to arrive on Monday for today’s meeting.
The commission fixed the meeting over the controversial declaration of winner of the Adamawa State supplementary election by the now-suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Yunusa Hudu-Ari.
The commission, however, overruled him and summoned him and others to Abuja.
