About KCee

Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo known by his stage name KCee is a Nigerian songwriter and singer, a prolific entertainer who hails from Uli local government area in Anambra State, South Eastern Nigeria.

He was born on the18th of April 1979 in Ajegunle a ghetto suburb in Lagos State, South Western Nigeria where he had most of his education.

He attended central high school Isolo, Lagos before proceeding to the university of Nigeria, Nsukka Enugu State to bag a degree in theatre Arts.

As a teenager, KCee was keenly interested in footbal, this expalins his active involvment in the game while growing up. He played locally for Julius Berger and Puma football clubs.

He also started singing as a teenager in his church choir, this and listening to his father’s (who was a DJ) old diverse music tapes inspired his musical career.

While at the Church choir, KCee met Precious John who became his friend and vital part of his musical journey as they both entered into the Star Quest talent ashunt show in 2002 as partnersyears ofhey emerged as the winners of the show.

Winning the Star Quest talent reality show brought them to limelight as the duo began to perform as a group known as KCee and Presh.

They were signed to Kennis music label which was the biggest music label back then and owned by Keke Ogunbe and Dayo “D1” Adeneye.

It was also home to the likes of Edris Abdul Kareem, Tubaba Idibia, Jaywon, Mike Are my, Tony Tetuila, Capital Femi, Sound Sultan, Essence, Sir Shina Peters, Eldee the don and the late Goldie Harvey.

They performed at events, shows and made waves travelling far and wide untill they left Kennis music to create their own label which they called KP Records in 2006.

They relaunched it in 2008 as BLINGZ records in conjunction with Grafton Records. In 2008, they released an album titled “No Time” under Blingz records.

In 2011, KCee split from Presh after twelve years of making several hits together (Shikoku”, ” Bobo”, “Sio nkpo”,” Segemende) recognition and touring the world.

KCee teamed up with his brother Emeka Oknkwo who is also known as E Money to set up a new music label ” The Five Star Music Label” under which he released about nine of his singles that included the street anthem “LIMPOPO”.

This particular song catapulted KCee’s career to greater heights as it moved crowds , won several awards and made him more famous all over Nigeria and Africa as he travelled different places to perform the sought after single.

It practically got the singer back into fame after his split from his partner Presh. In 2013, KCee released another album titled ” Take Over” which had massive singles that included “Hakuna Matata” and “Pull Over”.

He is still signed to five star music alongside other artistes like Skibii, Harry Song who has now left the label, E Money and Akoo Nana.

The singer admitted that growing up in the ghetto challenged him to work hard to be where he is today, if he did not end up as an artiste he would have probably ended up as a footballer as he was determined to make it big in life.

He also admits that his Parents supported his choice of career even though his father initially doubted the ability of him making good money from music, he was later convinced when he realised that making a decent living from a musical career is possible in this era.

The singer also pointed out in an interview that his former partner and label mate Presh is a vital part of his success that cannot be overlooked, as they started together, work hard, gained experience, recognition and fame before going their separate ways. Actually, every body with a good knowledge of Nigerian music knows the singer as KCEE of Kc Presh.

Kingsley Chinedu married his wife Ifeoma Okonkwo in 2010. The beautiful lady who is an event decorator. She owns pixie world events and they have a son named Kanye.

The woman is barely seen or heard of, she maintains a low profile and this led to the speclation of their divorce. Kcee was also rumored to be dating Ebube Nwagbo a beautiful nollywood actress but broke up with her in 2010 to marry his wife Ijeoma.

After the separation from his wife, he reconciled with the actress but not for long as Kcee finally resolved issues with his wife.

However I have no conclusions on his curent relationship status because he once claimed in an interview with vanguard that he had never been married and went as far as saying his wife was his sister but when pictures of traditional marriage flooded the media, he claimed the pictures were from a movie which he featured in. He later addressed the issue and pointed it out as a joke after he had allegedly reconciled with his wife.

Since Kcee went solo, he has released an album ” TAKE OVER” in 2013. He has also featured many artists like WizKid, Flavour, DBanj, Davio, Don Jazzy, Timaya, Olamide, Mr Songz, Skibii, Phono and producers like Del B, Black Jersey, Jo Pee, Soso, Sobrekon.

His !major singles as a solo artist are: Pull over (2013), Limpopo (2013), Tender (2016), Stand by you (2016), Ogadinma (2013), Tinana (2016) Hakuna Matata (2013).

Deals And Endorsements

KCEE is a very wealthy artist, his brother E Money who co owns the music label “Five Star” music is one of Nigeria’s youngest billionaires. Kcee owns a fleet of exotic cars and lives a flamboyant life style.

He was one of the ambassadors to MTN a telecommunications company, he also had an endorsement deal with Peace airline and in 2015, he signed another deal with Magnum a soft liquor company.

The wife of the former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan made Kcee an ambassador for peace of the federal republic of Nigeria. The singer is worth about nine hundred million naira.
