Lagos court sentences ‘Prophet’ to seven years imprisonment for N59.7m fraud

Cletus Ilongwo, a self-described “prophet,” was recently given a seven-year prison term for defrauding N59.7 million by a Lagos Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos.infomation guide nigeria

Ilongwo was found guilty of the sevencount indictment brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and Justice Sherifat Solebon handed down the sentence (EFCC).

The anti-graft organisation claims that Ilongwo received the funds via his Zenith Bank account 1003455899 in instalments.

The convict’s attorney, Mr. Albert Imolodia, said that the client was a first-time criminal who was also a family man with dependents who depended on him for existence. He pleaded with the court to be lenient in its decision, pointing out that some of the money had already been returned to the complainant and he was sorry.

Ilongwo’s property located at No. 3 Popoola Ajayi Street in Diamond Estate, Amuwo Odofin, and a Toyota Prado were declared forfeited to the Federal Government as restitution to settle the complainant after Justice Solebon cited a large number of decided instances.
