The Lagos State Government, through its Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has taken decisive action against illegal parking, resulting in the impoundment of 15 tankers.
These vehicles were found parked indiscriminately along the 2nd Rainbow and Mile 2 Bridge on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. This enforcement operation was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address traffic congestion and maintain order on Lagos roads.

Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, provided details of the operation in a statement given to PUNCH Metro.
According to Peter Gbejemede, the Director of Operations at LASTMA, such enforcement actions will continue until the issue of illegal and careless parking, which contributes significantly to traffic gridlock in Lagos State, is fully addressed.
The statement highlighted LASTMA’s commitment to ensuring free flow of traffic and reducing the challenges faced by commuters in Lagos, especially on key routes like the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

“In a press statement released by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq confirmed that the enforcement operations were carried out on the directives of the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation Hon. Sola Giwa.
“It was further confirmed that some of the impounded tankers were apprehended inside Mile 2 Estates after investigations revealed that some of them now parked indiscriminately thereby causing serious traffic for Motorists coming out from the Estates.
“According to Mr. Peter Gbejemede (LASTMA Director of Operations), the enforcement exercise was in accordance with the Law and would be continuous until zero tolerance is achieved on illegal/ indiscriminate parking across the State.
“The Transportation Special Adviser has therefore urged Motorists to collaborate with the government by informing LASTMA of any broken down or abandoned trailer/truck via the Agency hotlines; 08100565860, 08129928515 & 08129928593.”
