Malaria Modelling Fellowship Program

Aims of the Fellowship

The MMF seeks to achieve two primary objectives:

  • Bolster the Ranks: Significantly increase the number of doctoral and post-doctoral level trained mathematical modelers specialising in malaria, who are based at Nigerian institutions.
  • Enhance NMEP’s Capacity: Amplify the capacity of the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) to utilise modelling approaches. These approaches are instrumental in supporting strategic planning and the evaluation of malaria control and elimination efforts.

What the Fellowship Offers

The MMF is fully funded, ensuring that fellows receive comprehensive support for both physical and online sessions. Special provisions are made for female fellows with children under 18 months, highlighting the programme’s commitment to inclusivity and support for women in science.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this transformative opportunity, applicants must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree or higher in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, applied mathematics, or related fields.
  • Have specialised training in malaria and other infectious disease control programmes, including those who are residents or graduates from accredited Field Epidemiology training programmes.
  • Be currently affiliated with a Nigerian public institution working within the ‘One Health’ scope – encompassing human health, animal health, and the environment.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years’ professional experience.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Exhibit problem-solving skills and the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
