Godwin Oriabure, the prosecutor, said that the defendant had been stealing from the university for the previous three years and that the offense violated Section 280 (1a) of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015 and was penalized under Section 287(1).

The charge read in part, “That you, Adewale Gbenga, on Friday, November 25, 2022, around 11pm at Honour’s Hall environ, UNILAG, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos, in the Yaba Magisterial District, did steal Infinix Smart phone valued at N49,000 property of one Taiwo Bunmi, and others and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 (!a) and punishable under Section 287(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”NYSC portal

The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N200,000 with two trustworthy sureties, and the matter was continued for mention to January 26, 2023 by Magistrate A.O. Salawu.
