Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola which was formerly known as Federal University of Technology, Yola is a degree awarding institution located in Yola, Adamawa State in North Central Nigeria.
This great university had a change of name to Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola on 1st October, 2011 and was approved by President Goodluck Jonathan.
It is also known as MAUTECH. MAUTECH was established in 1981. It is one of the Federal Universities of Technology passed by the decree of 1980 approving its establishment.
Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola was set up to bridge the gap between technological knowhow and theoretical classwork among Nigerian graduates at the time.
The first Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola was appointed in 1981. About 214 students kicked off the academic session of 1982/83 in the University, but the student population has grown up to over 20,000 now.
Also, the first of graduates from the University were 108 and finished in 1988/89 academic session. The University has 7 schools (faculties) and they include School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT), School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET), School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS), School of Technology and Science Education (STSE), School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT), School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), and School of Environmental Science (SES).
Just like other universities in Nigeria, the University has a senate which is the highest decision making authority of the school, a chancellor who is the ceremonial head of the school and a vice chancellor who steers the daily activities in the University.
The Vice Chancellor of MAUTECH is Professor Kyari Mohammed.
As one of the foremost federal universities of technology in Nigeria, all the courses offered by Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola are fully accredited both by National University Commission (NUC) and Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

Just like a similar federal universities of technology, MAUTECH does not study a lot of courses because of the goal for which they were established.
The courses approved by NUC for study in MAUTECH are listed below under their various faculties/schools:
School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology
This school has 8 departments and they are Agricultural Economics and Extension, Animal Science and Range Management, Crop Production and Horticulture, Crop Protection, Fisheries, Food Science and Technology, Forestry and Wildlife Management, and Soil Science.
School of Engineering and Engineering Technology
Some departments in this school have lost COREN accreditation, but the school authorities are making efforts to regain its accreditation.
Presently, there are 5 departments in this school and they are Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering
School of Environmental Science
This school currently has six (6) departments and they include Architecture, Building, Geography, Industrial Design, Surveying and Geo-informatics, and Urban and Regional Planning
School of Pure and Applied Sciences
This school has twelve (12) departments and they are Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Laboratory Science Technology, Mathematics, Computer Technology, Microbiology, Physics, Plant Science, Statistics and Operations Research, and Zoology
School of Management and Information Technology
The departments in this school are Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, Information Technology, Management Technology and Library Science
School of Technology and Science Education
The department in this school includes Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Geography Education, Mathematics Education, Physics Education, and Statistics Education.
Also, included in this school are Agricultural Technology Education, Business Education, Construction Technology Education, and Electrical/Electronics Technology

The University has 4 standard Halls of Residence for their students. The student Affairs Division maintains the policy governing accommodation in the University.

The local and international rankings of MAUTECH have been getting over the years.
According to ranking on ICU (International Colleges and Universities) in 2014 by University Web Ranking, MAUTECH was ranked 67th in 2014 Best University in Nigeria.
It also came out as 7th Best University of Technology in Nigeria. so, the ranking of the school is steadily improving.
MAUTECH offers courses in Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s Degree and Doctorate of Philosophy levels. Listed below are the common requirements:
Post Graduate Diploma
Interested candidates must have 5 Credit passes in O’ Level (including English and mathematics) and any other relate subjects in their courses of choice in the University.
Higher National Diploma (HND) of at least upper credit from a recognized polytechnic. Also, a candidate may possess a degree from MAUTECH or any other recognized university by the school senate.
Candidates with 3rd class 12 honours in Geology, Geography, and other physical sciences may be considered.
More so, Professional qualifications like AIB, ACCA, ACMA, ICAN, CPA, BEEC etc may also be considered.
Interested candidates must have 5 Credit passes in O’ Level (including English Language) and any other relate subjects in their courses of choice in the University and are expected to have completed their compulsory NYSC.
Candidates with 3rd class division with 5 years’ teaching experiences plus postgraduate diploma in Education may be considered for admission into this programme in Education.
A BSC from a recognized university with second class honours will be considered.
Also, aholder of professional fellowship qualifications like FIMLT, NIPR, FNILT, etc obtained through examinations and with at least 3 years’ work experiences may also be considered.
Directorate of Philosophy
All interested candidates who are interested in doing PhD in MAUTECH must possess a Master’s Degree from MAUTECH or a recognized university with a CPGA of not less than 3.50 on a scale of 5.00 and/or Grade B with a satisfactory research work during the course of Master’s degree programme.

Just like many Nigerian universities, MAUTECH uses the NUC standard for grading its students.
This means that for NUC programmes, grading is done on a scale of 5.00.
The rundown is shown below:
a. First Class Division: (100 – 70 with 5.00 – 4.50 CGPA)
b. Second Class Upper Division: (69 – 60 with 4.49 – 3.50 CGPA)
c. Second Class Lower Division: (49 – 45 with 3.49 – 2.40 CGPA)
d. Third Class Division: (49 – 45 with 2.39 – 1.50).
Notice that NUC has since abolished the Pass Grade in Nigerian universities. This means that any student who scores below 45 in exam is assumed to have failed it.
All prospective UTME candidates of MAUTECH, Yola must compulsorily sit for their Post UTME screening test before they are considered for admission.
Candidates from UTME must score 180 and above, and must choose the University as their first choice university. Please note that these scores are subject to change from time to time.
And to be considered for admission, all candidates must have 5 Credit passes including English Language and other 4 subjects relevant to their course of choice in not more than 2 sittings.
Post UTME test scratch cards are sold at N2, 300 only at designated banks announced by the University.
Furthermore, Direct Entry candidates must possess the same subject requirement above (that is 5 Credit passes in O’ Level) with OND, NCE, HND, etc.
Candidates must possess at least lower credit in National Diploma or merit grade in NCE. These candidates applying through Direct Entry must meet these compulsory requirements approved by the senate.

Duration Of Studies
Because of its unique nature and based on the fact that is strictly a Federal University of Technology, ALL courses in MAUTECH take 5-year duration period.
Also, all freshmen irrespective of their departments do the same courses in 100L.
Postgraduate Diploma (Regular): Two semesters
Postgraduate Diploma (Sandwich): Three long vacations.
Master’s Degree: 12 months for full time and 3 semesters for part-time.
M.Ed. M.A. (Sandwich): Three long vacations
Directorate of Philosophy: 3 calendar years minimum and 5 calendar years maximum for full-time and 3 calendar years minimum and 6 calendar years for part-time. (PhD is not run on sandwich programme)
