Ndume defends rendition of Tinubu’s campaign song at NASS

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has come to the defense of the rendition of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign song during the presentation of the 2024 budget at the National Assembly.

This act, which occurred while Tinubu was at the assembly for the budget presentation, has been a subject of controversy.

As a sign of respect, lawmakers stood up, but the band played Tinubu’s campaign song from his time as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).JAMB Portal

The action has drawn criticism from various quarters, including notable Nigerians and groups like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the main opposition party, who condemned the blending of political campaign elements with a formal state function.NYSC Portal

However, Ndume, who is also the Senate Chief Whip, sees no issue with this action. He drew a parallel to the era of former President Muhammadu Buhari, pointing out that the ‘sai baba’ mantra was similarly recited by lawmakers.JAMB Result

His argument suggests a precedent for such actions, implying that incorporating elements of political campaign slogans or songs into official government functions is not unprecedented in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“It is not a crime. Honestly, it is not a big deal. In this country, we pick on trivial things. When a President walks in, there are times that some members take advantage of that situation to even challenge the President directly.informationguidenigeria

“When Buhari came some time back, this same thing was done – ‘Sai Baba’ (was chanted). So why should Tinubu’s case be a big deal?” he said.
