NNPC defends 68m-litre daily consumption, backs forensic audit

On Sunday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited asserted that there were 68 million gallons of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as gasoline, available every day throughout the nation.Information Guide Nigeria

The company also promised to submit a forensic audit of PMS supply and subsidy management.

Col. Hameed Ali (retired), Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, was quoted as saying on Friday by The PUNCH that NNPC could not justify the amount of gasoline consumed in Nigeria daily to support the over N6.34tn subsidy payment on the goods yearly.

Ali had contended that the NNPC’s assertion of daily use of 98 million litres of PMS could not be supported scientifically and that the country’s oil firm was actually delivering more than 38 million litres of PMS daily.

But in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Garba-Deen Muhammad, the oil firm stated that between January and August 2022, “the total volume of PMS imported into the country was 16.46 billion litres, which translates to an average supply of 68 million litres per day.”

It added, “Similarly, import in the year 2021 was 22.35 billion litres, which translated to an average supply of 61 million litres per day.”JAMB Result
