The significance of ileya carnival to the people of oluwo community is great not only because of happiness the carnival brings to the people of the community and its environ but also the sense of belonging it allows the indigenes of the community to have which is the most important.

Oluwo village is located in Ibadan north local government of oyo state and its history could be traced to about four decades ago when farmers from Oje and Temidire areas of Ibadan used the village for farm land because its favorable land to farm produce.

However, as time went on, when the farmers worked late on the farm and they couldn’t go back home they usually sleep in the farm instead, when this persisted, they built huts in the village where they could sleep whenever they were unable to return again for the day.

Due to usual occurrence of this situation, they decided to be leaving in the village instead of returning home for the day. eventually the publicity has grown to become town as it is today.

In about a decade ago, the indigene of the community decided in their group forum to embark on a fiesta that would be celebrated annually where indigene of the community far and near could come together and they resulted into Oluwo Carnival.

The carnival is faced with financial challenges in the past because of lack of trust in the organizer of the fiesta unlike now where people voluntarily contribute even more than estimated budget for seasonal carnival.

When the carnival began it used to be locally organized where people will just come, drink palm wine and dance local music then left but everything has totally changed now.

The advent of civilization has greatly influenced the organization of the carnival. There is now eight standing committee members who had been in charge of Organization of the fiesta since about four years ago and they have given the carnival a new look.

The carnival is celebrated on the second day of ileya festival therefore 3 months before the date came the committee would remind the indigene of the community that are not leaving at home through; text message, calls and social platform of the community on Facebook and twitter.

They would remind them about their voluntary contribution and the plans that have been set aside for the carnival that coming year.

With massive interest from people lately, the Carnival has seen a financial boost from people towards better actualization of the fiesta.

The carnival is being done at the center of the community which was set aside by elders for such occasion. Although it is an open space but it used to be colourfully decorated specially for the occasion.

The attair for that occasion is always colourful As women dress in attair which often of the same type and men follow the suit.

On the other hand, young guys and ladies do dress in suits and gown befitting red carpet occasion. Although the dress code and colour is determined by the committee set aside for the carnival.

The committee has done well to organize the programme in a way that suite the interest of the young and old folks. The items of the programs include; opening prayers, introduction of special guests,musical performances, lecture among others.

The item seven part which is the most interesting part is buffet where every one was allowed to serve themselves with prepared meal which always include; rice, moinmoin, salad, and various delicious delicacies

Oluwo carnival has really brought great development to oluwo community.it has helped in integrating indigenes of the community thereby allowing the vulnerable ones to have connection for employment, business advantage and other opportunities.
