Plateau attacks similar to Rwanda genocide – North Central governors

Governors from the six North Central states of Nigeria have collectively urged the Federal Government to urgently seek a permanent resolution to the ongoing violence and killings in Plateau State. This call for action follows the horrific attacks on Christmas Eve, where gunmen targeted 25 communities across three local government areas in Plateau State, resulting in the tragic loss of over 150 lives.NYSC Portal

The appeal was made during a condolence visit led by the Governor of Nasarawa State and Chairman of the North Central Governors’ Forum, Abdullahi Sule, to the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, in Jos. Accompanying Governor Sule were the governors of Niger and Benue states, Mohammed Bago and Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, respectively.JAMB Result

Governor Sule emphasized that the situation in Plateau State should not be misconstrued as merely herder-farmer conflicts. He drew a comparison to the catastrophic events in Rwanda, indicating the severity and complexity of the crisis.

Expressing his deep concern, Governor Sule remarked that these attacks have continued for far too long and stressed the need for intervention to prevent the destruction caused by what he described as the actions of criminals, rather than a specific ethnic group.JAMB Portal

“This is not about Fulani. It is about criminals and we are asking the Federal Government to assist us and deal with the problem,” Governor Sule stated, underscoring the importance of a united front against the perpetrators of these heinous acts.InformationGuideNigeria
