Power generation rises in 48 hours, hits 4,864MW

Power generation on the national grid climbed by 834,8 MW from Monday morning to Wednesday morning, reaching a peak of 4,863.7 MW at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.Information Guide Nigeria

On Monday, October 31, 2022, the grid recorded an off-peak power generation of 4,028.9MW, according to data acquired from the Federal Ministry of Power’s Abuja headquarters.

On Monday, the amount of energy created was estimated to be 103,049.22 megawatt-hours, while the amount sent out was 101.864.04MWh.

On Tuesday, both off-peak and peak power generation increased, reaching 4,182.3MW and 4,80MW, respectively.

Similarly, the amount of energy created grew to 108,582.78MWh on Tuesday compared to the previous day, while the amount of energy sent out jumped to 107,335.02MWh.

Wednesday saw a continuation of the northward shift of power generation. As of 6 a.m. on Wednesday, according to FMP data, the grid had 4,863.7MW, showing an increase of 834.8MW within the preceding 48 hours.

Since this year, Nigeria’s power grid has experienced a series of oscillations in electricity generation, with seven system failures recorded in 2022.

However, the Federal Government, through its Transmission Company of Nigeria, had frequently asserted that it was attempting to stabilise the grid by constructing power substations and other facilities throughout the country. The TCN controls the grid.

Recent growth in power generation observed on the grid, according to analysts, may indicate that TCN is making headway in the nationwide deployment of transformers and other electrical transmission facilities.

Recently, the business stated that it had installed and energised a new 150MVA 330/132/33kV inter-bus transformer at the Delta IV Transmission Substation in Ughelli, Delta State.

It was stated that the introduction of the new 150MVA power transformer had restored the substation’s capacity by 132MW.

However, the Federal Government, through its Transmission Company of Nigeria, had frequently asserted that it was attempting to stabilise the grid by constructing power substations and other facilities across the country. The grid is administered by TCN.

Recent growth in power generation observed on the grid, according to analysts, could indicate that TCN is making headway in the nationwide deployment of transformers and other electrical transmission facilities.

Recently, the business reported that it had successfully installed and energised a new 150MVA 330/132/33kV inter-bus transformer at Delta IV Transmission Substation in Ughelli, Delta State.

“Consequently, TCN is now able to evacuate/wheel more power for Benin Electricity Distribution Company to off-take from the substation for onward delivery to electricity consumers in Ughelli, Warri, and its environs,” the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated.

She added, “The installation of the new 150MVA inter-bus transformer has restored flexibility to the substation by enabling TCN to evacuate power from Transcorp Power Limited at both at 330kV and 132kV voltage levels.

“This means an increase in bulk power transmitted through the substation and improved grid stability.”

The power company has recently stated that it had begun building a 132kV transmission line, a 2X60MVA transmission substation, and a switching station in Ekiti State to increase the state’s capacity by 204MW.

It was also stated that the project consisted of a 50-kilometer stretch of 132kV transmission line from Ikere (Ado Ekiti) with a turn in – turn out at Ijesa Isu, which finished at Ilupeju Ekiti, and a 2X60MVA, 132/33kV transmission substation with four line bays.JAMB Result
