Queen Elizabeth II: King Charles to address nation for first time as monarch

After Queen Elizabeth II’s death, King Charles III is expected to address the nation for the first time as sovereign at 18:00 BST.Information Guide Nigeria

Britain’s longest-reigning monarch died peacefully on Thursday at Balmoral in Scotland, surrounded by her family.

The King has arrived in London, where he will meet Prime Minister Liz Truss later. As the UK pays tribute to her reign, gun salutes will be fired and church bells will begin to toll.

A gun salute has been planned for the following hour in London’s Hyde Park, with 96 rounds to mark each year of her life to be fired around 13:00 BST.

Prime Minister Liz Truss and other senior ministers will attend a remembrance service at St Paul’s Cathedral at 18:00 BST.

It will be free and open to the public, with 2,000 tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those interested in attending must go to the City of London tourism office on Carter Lane in London from 11:00 a.m. BST to pick up a wristband.

As a mark of respect, all Premier League and English Football League games this weekend have been postponed.
